Remembering What God Has Done
I have seen a few posts and articles this week talking about reminders of God's work. Psalms 77:11-14 says-I will remember the deeds of the Lord ; yes, I will remember your wonders of old. I will ponder all your work, and meditate on your mighty deeds. Your way, O God, is holy. What god is great like our God? You are the God who works wonders; you have made known your might among the peoples. In Joshua chapter 4 we see 12 stones set up to remind future generations of what God had done for the people of Israel after they crossed over the Jordan River into the Promised Land. In 1 Samuel 7:12, we read that Samuel set up an Ebenezer stone in commemoration of God's help to the Israelites in their victory over the Philistines at Mizpah.
I have made a great effort to focus on the impossible things God has done. I believe God wants us to remember the good things and remember how He has worked in our lives. Today the Holy Spirit has put those things right in front of me. As I woke up I was remembering the first time God showed up in a big way. Back in 2006 when I was serving in Student Ministry, I worked at the elementary school and I was a volunteer emergency medical technician for the ambulance service in my community. I loved working at the school and serving our community as an EMT. I have seen good things and I have seen bad things. I have been able to give people a peace to know that everything was going to be okay and I have had to share that a friend or loved one didn't make it. But one evening when I was on duty we received a call for a young boy that was feverish and lethargic. When we arrived, my heart sank because I knew this boy and his family from the elementary school. My training immediately kicked in. He had a high temperature, his breathing was shallow, he was seizing but he still had a pulse. We rushed him to the ambulance, called the paramedics medics and started toward the hospital. The medics met up with us very quickly and came on board. I gave the paramedic the information and she reassessed him. I had bagged him to assist his breathing. She started pushing the medications to get his seizures to stop but nothing was working. I immediately started praying. Our drive to the ER was 20+ minutes. Normally when people have a seizure for this long, the end result is brain damage. We transferred care to the ER and as I was getting the ambulance cleaned up. I was also watching the room he was in. His seizures stopped and they let me see him one last time as the Holy Spirit was pressing me to pray over him with his mom and grandma. We left the hospital and returned to the station. I got to speak to his mom a few days later. I found out that he was released from the hospital and they did not know what caused his seizure. After many tests they did not find any brain damage. I have kept up with him off and on through the years. He is now an adult. He has not had another seizure since that day. His family has thanked me but, I remind them that this was God. I did everything I was trained to do but, God did this. Glory to Him!! I am glad that God reminded me of this today because I am seeking the impossible this year and I hope this encourages you as you are seeking God to do the impossible. We serve a mighty God!
In my next post, I hope to share another impossible with you. Have a great day friends!
Psalm 111:1-2 “Praise the LORD. I will extol the LORD with all my heart in the council of the upright and in the assembly. 2 Great are the works of the LORD; they are pondered by all who delight in them.”
