What’s Most Important

Do you ever find yourself overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information swirling around in your mind? I've been experiencing many of those days lately. And from what I've observed, it seems like many others are feeling the same way. In moments like these, it's essential to remember the words of 1 Peter 5:6-7: "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time; casting all your anxiety upon him, because he cares for you." Indeed, He does care deeply for each one of us. Throughout my life, I've witnessed God's hand at work in numerous trials and situations. Reflecting on those times, I realize that one of the greatest challenges for me was not the trial itself, but rather the waiting period. Knowing that God would eventually work things out was comforting, but the waiting often proved just as trying as the trial itself. During these waiting seasons, what has brought me the most solace is expressing gratitude to God for answered prayers and for what He will do. This act of thanksgiving serves as a source of encouragement, lifting my spirit even in the midst of adversity.

When I was diagnosed with MS, there was so much on my mind. I found comfort in relying on God, which allowed me to focus on the day. As God was leading me, I came to a point when I realized that I could no longer drive a bus. This was one of the most rewarding things that I could do, and I was able to be Jesus to so many students and families. To make the choice to stop was the right thing to do but also the hardest decision to make. Knowing that I would have to find another job was scary because it meant that I would have to return to the business world. In this time, I knew the right thing to do was to let God find that job. I had a specific prayer: “to have an employer or manager/leader that was like-minded”, “to work somewhere where I could express and share my faith without fear”, and “to work at a place where people were more important than profit”. I had worked in the corporate world before and I did not want to have anything to do with a place that did not care for their people. God answered every letter of that prayer. To this date, I believe that because of my relationship with my employer and many more prayers for healing, God stopped my disease activity.

Having reminders of how powerful our God is brings my mind to rest. Not only did I have a Godly employer but through some of those employees and my brothers and sisters in Christ, I was placed at the feet of Jesus and given another chance to live my best life on this planet. The best example of this is the story of the paralyzed man that was healed because of his friends (Mark 2).

So, while you are waiting try these tips:

  1. Maintain a Positive Mindset: Take those overwhelming thoughts captive (2 Corinthians 10:5). We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.

  2. Cultivate an Attitude of Gratitude: Nothing is too small to express to God your gratitude. Journal these thoughts so you always have a reminder.

  3. Turn to God in Prayer: When doubts or concerns arise, let Him know your concerns. Nothing is too difficult for Him.

We have hope because of the promises we find in the Bible. Continue to persevere in your faith even though there may be challenges. God loves and cares for you.

Make it a great day!
